Getting Groovy

3-10-2011 –

Saturday March 12th I will once again ride the 30 mile route. I will be at MiraCosta College on Manchester Ave at about 8:30am and would like to begin no later than 9:00am.
We will ride according to the ability of the group; no one will be left behind. The route can be found on the blog.

Sunday March 27th We will have the support of Cycling Camp San Diego to ride the 55 mile route. This ride will have a support vehicle and professional coaches to evaluate your riding and provide you with feedback on your bike fit, riding style and methods you can use to improve your skills and endurance before the day of event. This will be a great ride and will be conducted under the same philosophy of ‘no rider left behind’.

April 16/17 or 23/24 CCSD will again support our ride. This will be the former 70 mile route. This route is not being used this year on the day of event but it is a great stepping stone between the 50 mile ride and the 100 mile ride for building endurance. Once again we will follow the ‘no rider left behind’ philosophy.

Attending these training rides and getting in as many miles as possible between now and May 7th should be everyone’s goal.

Even if you do not expect to ride 100 miles show up this Saturday and we’ll discuss a training plan for your needs. I will be riding at other times and shorter distances and will let you all know when and where.

3-4-2011 – 9 weeks to go. Time to begin getting in some miles. Start at about 60% of max and just ride, it should be easy, you will be able to hold a conversation. Ride like this for the next 4 weeks then we will begin working harder to build strength and speed. Right now we want to get the lungs and heart into shape for what is to come. The legs will come along.

Here is a free, fully supported ride for St Patrick’s Day. This event is being organized and supported by our friends Rob and Jo from Cycling Camps San Diego (CCSD). St Paddy’s Palomar Punishment

2-8-2011 – We are 13 weeks away from the day of event May 7th 2011. I hope the fundraising is going well so everyone reaches their $150.00 minimum goal so they may ride.

The maps are posted  on the main event page but I thought a link here may be more convenient.

I will be pre-riding all of these courses at least once between now and May 7th, I will post an invitation on twitter and add a link here. Please RSVP for each pre-ride and be prepared to ride with self-support and be able to complete the course or provide your own rescue vehicle. As these rides are not supported in an official capacity by the ADA they will not be providing any support. All rides with @SDVeloSocial (my mild-mannered alter ego) have these rules:

SDVeloSocial rides are self-support. Riders must carry spare tubes, tire repair kit, air pump plus critical water and nutritional bar. HELMETS ARE MANDATORY. SD Velo Social has no liability all riders participate at their own risk.

I will be tweeting the invitations from @TeamRedSD @SanDiegoTdC and @SDVeloSocial

You do not need a twitter account to respond to the invitations but if you have one it makes communication much easier. If you have joined Team Red please follow @TeamRedSD and send me a message letting me know you are a team member so I can create a list which you would then be free to follow.

I will also update the Face Book page with a link:

Train, Train, going my way!

It’s that time again, get ready for the SDVeloSocial Train Trip. This time we will be taking the surfliner from Solana Beach to Santa Ana and riding back. We had a great time last year going to Laguna Nigel and riding back. This year we thought we could bite off a few more miles. I am checking with a group in the Santa Ana area to see if they would be interested in meeting us at the station and riding south with us and then returning home on the afternoon train. Great opportunity to ride with some people from outside of our immediate area. I wonder if they ride with an accent?

So I was thinking February 26th March 5th on the 7:39am train getting into Santa Ana just before 9am. There is a north bound at 3:30pm which should allow us plenty of time to cover 74 miles.

It has been decided; March 5th is the day.

Find the train schedule here. Click

I think we should take the 565 train at 7:39A getting into Santa Ana at 8:57A.

Anyone meeting us in Santa Ana can return on either the 583 at 3:34p arriving at 4:48p or the 735 at 4:35p arriving at 5:32p.
